What to Choose and Why
By: Terry Butler
First, you should learn what state and federal law says about your school transportation requirements. Define how you will be using the bus (route pick-up/delivery or field trips). Determine which regulatory department(s) specifications you are required to meet in terms of vehicles, drivers and liability. Involve your insurance agency in confirming the best vehicle choice. Next, chart your course and "press on" to accomplish the mission.
Vehicle Recommendation In general terms, the school bus or activity bus are the best choices for transporting children. All manufacturers are required to meet the same federal specifications. So, with the basics covered, your decision is based on the vehicle's fit and finish. These buses are recommended or mandated by state and federal law for child transportation. The structure, seating, visibility, size and color of these vehicles all work together to make them the safest vehicles on the road today for this purpose.
Choosing a Dealer Find a dealer you trust and ask for their input. If you have time, talk with two or three others and visit their businesses; the time is usually well spent. Your net decision is whether the dealer will still be around after the sale. Compare responses and make your selection.
