How does your school's physical education program measure up? Is your school "physical activity friendly?"
According to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), "Quality physical education is the cornerstone in developing an active lifestyle. Quality physical education can help students to be more active, more fit, and achieve better academically."
In addition to physical education, NASPE suggests that a physical activity friendly environment includes schools providing extracurricular physical activity programs, especially inclusive, intramural programs and physical activity clubs that:
* Feature a diverse selection of competitive and noncompetitive, structured and unstructured activities * Meet the needs and interests of all students with a wide range of abilities, particularly those with limited interests or skills in traditional athletic activities * Emphasize participation and enjoyment without pressure
A good physical education program certainly includes high-quality equipment, both for safety and maximum performance. In our annual focus on gym equipment, we cover everything from basketball backstops to portable nets to flooring, and everything in between, to ensure that your students have the best possible equipment for their physical education and athletic experiences.
I hope that your new school year is off to a great start. We are in the process of planning our own 2008 year, editorially, so please let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions for topics you'd like to see covered in future issues.
I'm always interested in hearing from you. You can reach me at jill@cspmag.com .
God Bless,
