With increasing frequency, "green" press releases are landing on my desk every day, ranging from furniture to playground equipment to sustainable buildings, and nearly everything in between. No doubt about it, environmentally products and facilities are a hot topic in today's world.
So, what are the benefits associated with a having a "green school?"
According to the American Association of School Administrators, "The number of green schools is growing because of the overwhelming advantages they provide as compared to traditionally designed buildings."
The association found that compared with older buildings, new "green" schools typically:
* Have healthier students overall and reduced absenteeism rates
* Demonstrate improved learning and increased student test scores
* Have fewer incidents of student and teacher illnesses which disrupt learning
* Are cost-effective and a financial investment for school system
* Have increased teacher retention and job satisfaction
* Use less energy through the utilization of renewable energy sources
What is your school doing in the way of the environment?
On another note, this issue should find you back at your desk, ready to welcome your students to another school year. As always, I hope you find the information you're looking for when it comes to products and services for your school within these pages.
