What impact has the economy had on fundraising? You’d be surprised that the news is more positive than negative.

According to the American Association of Fundraising Counsel, overall charitable donations by U.S. citizens (individuals and household donors) in 2008 totaled $229.28 billion.

Within these statistics, education accounted for 13 percent of that ($40.9 billion). Even though most financial indicators in 2008 pointed to a downturn, the dip in overall donations was only 5.7 percent compared to 2007, when adjusted for inflation.

Additionally, the Association of Fund-Raising Distributors and Suppliers (AFRDS) states that eight out of ten parents purchase fundraising products, as does 75 percent of the overall American public.

How are you most successful in your school fundraising efforts? Product sales? Online donations through alumni? A capital campaign?
